A Japanese approach to the process of production, which emphasises tight scheduling of materials into and out of the process, with a very low inventory of stock carried onsite. The aim of the process is to prevent bottlenecks in production and ensure a smooth flow of throughput. It is also claimed that this approach reduces costs, increases job satisfaction and improves quality.
