Data which may be used as authorization for the techniques or procedures employed when making an alteration or repair to an FAA-certificated aircraft. Approved data consist of such documents as Type Certificate Data Sheets, Airworthiness Directives, Supplemental Type Certificates, and special repair instructions issued by the engineering department of the aircraft manufacturer and approved by the FAA.

DC electric arc welding in which the electrode is negative with respect to the work.
Industry:Aviation
DC electric arc welding in which the electrode is positive with respect to the work.
Industry:Aviation
Decreasing the amplitude of oscillations by the interaction of magnetic fields. In the case of a vertical-card magnetic compass, flux from the oscillating permanent magnet produces eddy currents in a damping disk or cup. The magnetic flux produced by the eddy currents opposes the flux from the permanent magnet and decreases the oscillations.
Industry:Aviation
Descent from enroute cruising altitude which takes place along the route of flight.
Industry:Aviation
Destructive vibration that occurs with a helicopter, usually on landing. If the helicopter touches down rough and unevenly, the shock can throw a load into the lead-lag hinges of the rotor blades and cause the blades to oscillate (move back and forth) about this hinge. If the frequency of this oscillation is the same as the resonant frequency of the fuselage, the energy will cause the helicopter to strike the ground hard with the opposite skid or wheel. This will increase the energy and cause more severe contact with the ground. If corrective action is not taken immediately, either lifting the helicopter or placing it firmly on the ground, ground resonance can destroy it.
Industry:Aviation
Devices used in the control system of some large aircraft to maintain a constant tension on the control cables as the aircraft dimensions change because of changes in temperature. The dimensions of the large mass of aluminum of which an airplane is made change a great deal from the time the plane leaves a hot ramp until it reaches the subzero temperatures of high altitude. If tension adjusters were not used, the control cables would become too loose when the metal contracts and the airplane becomes smaller.
Industry:Aviation
Devices used with an aircraft engine that are not parts of the engine itself. Magnetos, carburetors, generators, and fuel pumps are commonly installed engine accessories.
Industry:Aviation
Different types of integrated circuits and switches are mounted in DIPs, which are standardized with regard to size, pin spacing, and the distance between the two rows of pins.
Industry:Aviation
Digital circuitry which incorporates gates whose logic outputs are determined by the logic states of the inputs. Combinational logic differs from sequential logic, in whose gates the states of the outputs are determined by the previous logic state of the inputs.
